If one or both (or all 3) sides are determined to go nuclear, it will happen. They won’t need any specific justifications - as usual, everyone (among the relatively few survivors) would believe whatever they want to believe. If Ukraine blows up a device, the other players may have no choice but to blame each other - and join the Armageddon.

Another scenario — If Zelensky / Azov have a ready to go nuke, they may [virtually] blackmail the West into a conventional escalation - which is what they wanted since the first days of the war. That, too, would be extremely dangerous.

Imho, it’s very unlikely that Ukr has a ready to go nuke. But we don’t really know.
