** OT ** About Saddam, up until recently I viewed him more as an annoyance rather than a major threat to world-wide stability, but after reading a considerable amount of material, including the Robin Cook summary of UNSCOM's activities that I posted yesterday, I am convinced that, if anything, the world is not prepared to take on madmen like Saddam until it may be too late. If you recall, Israel bombed Saddam's nuclear weapons facilities in the early 80's and the world, including the US, condemned Israeli action. During the war with Iran Saddam showed no hesitation in using CBW, and he has used these horrendous weapons against the Kurdish minority in Iraq. UNSCOM has not only confirmed the Iranian claims and what Israeli intelligence has told us, but it has painted a much more frightening picture.
Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now.
About vegetarianism and iron and anemia. You might check with Steve (he's an MD -- I'm not), but I understand that iron deficiency is a common problem among menstruating women and may have little to do with dietary iron levels. In any event, legumes, leafy greens and enriched cereal and grains are good sources of iron.
Please, I'm not a fanatic about vegetarianism, and you needn't feel guilty about contributing to the demise of all those cute and cuddly furry creatures <VBG>.
