A rather pedestrian view of inflation.

When you print money you make each incremental dollar worth less. Dollars become cheap. Tobacco leaves becoming worth more dollars. Or giant stones with wholes in them, or gold or whatever medium of trade one happens to have, looks a little better than dollars. When you print 1.6 trillion dollars the damage is considerable.

The most bizarre thing to me in the world is that grown men and women, allegedly educated, can’t grasp this concept.
