Brumar,
Micron’s investing up to $100 billion to bring the country’s ‘largest semiconductor’ facility to New York
This is good news for New York, especially my alma mater.

But you have to ask yourself: Would Micron have chosen New York if it wasn't for the CHIPS bill?

A bit of background: New York used to be the site of the 450nm consortium, which included Intel and Samsung. My cousin from Korea used to be part of that consortium.

Also, Intel announced joining that consortium only as a result of an antitrust lawsuit settlement. That lawsuit was filed by then attorney general Andrew Cuomo, and I was adamant in my belief that the lawsuit was an obvious shakedown.

By the way, that 450nm consortium fell apart for various reasons:

But New York has a long history of trying to attract high tech. I still remember former NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg trying to promote "Silicon Alley."

And of course IBM HQ is still in the NY Poughkeepsie region, though IBM's clout has greatly diminished since the 1980's.

In any case, I can't wait for Alexandria Occasional-Cortex to try and oppose the new Micron fab in NY, just like she opposed Amazon HQ2 coming to NYC, then bragged about "saving the city money."

(Of course she won't, but hey, when was she ever consistent in her political beliefs?)
