MM's sometimes play a little game called "Painting the Tape".

In this game these guys, for whatever scam they plan on running the following day, will create a transaction at an artificially high or low price at the end of the trading day.

This value tends to obscure what the market is actually doing and permits the MM's to screw a few investors before market direction is clear.

IMHO, most of the individuals who function as MM's on small stocks are somewhere between dung beetles and pond scum.

They are apparently totally unregulated. Free to steal as much on every deal as they can.

They really work to the detriment of the companies in whose stock they deal. In general, you cannot correlate the performance of the stock with the activities of the companies.

They normally have no connection with the companies in whose securities they deal.
