Abortion is legal in California. A GOP politician in California doesn't need to want to change that.
As I wrote, I know people in leadership positions (church leaders usually) who say this is a single issue requirement for their politicians.

I also know some who lead different churches who are strong Democrats... I guess they have different versions of their holy books, like Pelosi.

For example, the SF Catholic diocese seems to have decided it is more important to let in more illegal people into the sanctuary city of SF to fill collection baskets than it is for Pelosi to follow their rules and reject abortion to get communion.
