From a fundamental perspective, I see no future.
Rockwell announced OEM pricing of $42.50 for the v.90 compliant chipsets. That does not leave a hell of a lot of room for profit after adding all the circuitry, housing, software, documentation, packaging, marketing, distribution and administration, at least based on current 56k retail pricing.
xDSL? Forget it. The big guys already have their eyes set on that market, companies that could squash these companies with out even blinking. The Bocas, Diamonds, Zooms, and Global Villages have no technology, so they will once again be at Rockwell's mercy just like they were on 56k. Their best hope is that someone will buy them for their label and distributions channels, but they'll all have to wait their turn as Motorola continues to seek a friendly suitor.
Having said that, money can still be made trading the swings. |
