Trump has a very loyal following, enough of a following to affect the outcome of the election even if Desantis takes the high road. In the end, Desantis is going to need the support of Trump's ardent supporters. If Trump doesn't do what is best for conservatives - and there is no reason to think he will - then he can hurt Desantis.
