Compromise has been going one way in Congress for the last decade. The point is that these people brutally attack each other on the floor and via the media, and then once the day is done and the cameras disappear, they hang out together. It's all for show, it's all for making each other rich via political favors, and it's all one big uniparty, the dominant face being the Democrats right now.
