Japanese insurer claims Palantir gives it “godlike powers.” It’s preparing to offer insurance against dementia to the nation with the oldest population. It’ll offer to pay out when dementia symptoms occur and provide incentives to individuals to delay the onset if they modify their behaviour – diet, sleep, exercise, etc. Nothing wrong with that, but
Palantir’s technology has so far enabled the insurer to analyse correlations of data and create a model to suggest improvements to care plans for each resident. Okumura hoped that these “big data” skills could now serve its core insurance business, helping the company to develop an insurance package that “avoids risks”. ft.com

Insurance works by pooling risk. Stratification could make insurance unavailable or cost-prohibitive for those with the greatest need.
