One important lesson about the stock markets is what happened between 1932 bottom and 1937 top: the market was up 415%. All this time the economy wasn’t doing so well. Indeed, after the low in the market, the depression continued to get worse. I can assure you that back then, looking at economic indicators would not have been very helpful.

Politics… are worse. People love nothing better than being able to push others around. So - buying votes and influence is as old as dirt.
