Once upon a time where I live people would travel to Vegas to gamble, then the Indians built casinos for the benefit of all.

The adrenaline rush of a quick-hit, to parlay a small amount of money into a big sum is as old as alchemy.

I knew this very respectable prim and proper lady that was also a caretaker and trustee for her mother in law.

This lady developed a late afternoon gambling habit and started dipping into the mil's savings via her debit card.

She burned through enough money to have educated all three of her children to the PhD level.

Unfortunately by the time she committed suicide there wasn't enough for a subway sandwich.

In the end 100 years of small farming enterprise, surviving blizzards and heat-waves, plus her life was consumed by the casino.

Several Chinese restaurants in the family fold for close to 100 years have also met their Waterloo at local casinos.

Chinese and Natives are the most notorious gamblers, with their lucky numbers and gaming traditions.
