Income inequality and its causes is indeed the burning issue. Robert Reich pointed out workers pay versus CEO's since 1965 was something like 21 to 1 and today it is over 350 to 1.

He and economist Stiglitz wrote the definitive books on it, and Stiglitz called it a cancer on the society.

The equation, IMO, is that the rich and corporations are not paying their fair share in taxes and and we need to reestablish unions.

There is an almost perfect correlation between the decline in unions and the decline in the middle class.

50 years ago, or so, unions were 36% of the work force, today it is about 6%.

If the rich paid their fair share of taxes that money could be used for affordable education, universal health care and needed social safety nets.

The Nordic countries have it figured out, but we are 20 years behind them as Republicans do not believe in social programs much, and prefer laissez faire to solve social needs which makes no sense.

Every city in the country has a planning department and we need a good robust one too!
