Nugan Hand was a very compromised institution because of its money laundering operations on behalf of the CIA.

As the US tried to extricate itself from the Vietnam War, the CIA had difficulty funding all of its black ops in Asia. A natural source of profits became the drug warlords in the golden triangle of Burma/Thailand. The drugs were funneled out through Chiang Mai, Thailand on military aircraft and the money was laundered primarily through Hugan Hand (and probably others).

I was not involved in the political end of the money train, but I speak from first-hand knowledge because I was in and out of Chaing Mai over several years.

I became disgusted with the intelligence community that it would contribute directly to drug addiction in our own children.

As a result, I got out of the business in 1978 and have been happy with the decision!
