Opposing bad ideas is essential.
I agree, but there is a fine line between opposing and 'giving voice to' in some "even bad PR is valuable" way. I find that my interest in opposing spectacularly bad ideas wanes after I've pointed out what I think are the obvious flaws.

There's also the influence aspect, whatever the mental equivalent of a shower might be after wandering amongst. Maybe needing a good foot rub is an apt analogy, like I'd stepped on a few Legos in some kids room.
Or maybe more than a few.

Anyway....
