retailers:
I've had varying size positions in BIG for maybe 30+ years, and have posted on it many times. BIG q reports haven't been good past few quarters, and my position now is very small.
I hold on to my losing positions in JOAN and KSS. I'm still hoping activist investors will force KSS to release value in the company (apparently with KSS's real esttate).
Holding my losing position in Container Store (TCS) also.
I have a small position in DLTR.
Otoh, there's DG. A large position in my basket. As I've posted, my idea was and is, that DG with its emphasis on rural/small communities, has a lock on business for small items with its dominance in these communities. The company always seems have been at a relatively high p/e (for a value investor perhaps), and now the stock's up at/near all time high. I haven't sold any shares, but I'm considering it. Only as a guess that the stock will fall with a general market decline. I believe it would come back because of its moat, its dominance, and the needed products it provides its customers.
DG reinforces my opinion that it's sometimes good to have a basket of stocks in a sector - hoping the good performers outweigh the bad.
I've still got other stocks in this basket - reducing now JWN after its bad quarterly report. Still holding Citi Trends which is in the African American/Latinex communities, Qurate Retail (ouch!), Big Five, Dick's, Costco.
Costco reinforces the idea that if you actually knew what you owned, you'd be like Buffett and buy such and ignore the rest. But I didn't know -- I hardly ever believe I know enough to be so confident. Even as I've lived with the company (stock) for years. A big error by me. Anyway, grateful I have held some shares tucked away as a set-and-forget. |
