Pardon my skepticism on this one.....for the folks that put men on the moon, but..... <g>

They are going to drill holes 10's of miles deep (from outside the Park, into the crust or even the upper mantle - orange layer figure below) to tap into and cool an enormous mantle source of heat driving the Yellowstone hotspot . I have no doubt that our wildcat drillers are up to the task, but......“Yellowstone currently leaks around 6GW in heat,”.....And is expanding, so that is the bare minimum, and likely not even close to the real heat flux involved.
Of course the mantle heat source for the volcanism has been operating for the past 15 MY at least, migrating from OR/WA through ID and now into MT, but we can shut it down with some cool water......

No doubt that it would be a long lasting source of geothermal energy to tap into! <g>
