Best thing you can do is keep the "dumb" Sony TV if it has an HDMI connector on it anywhere, and if not, find a more recent flat screen TV to your size and liking that does have an HDMI connector that also isn't a smart TV.

That'll depend on where you live, even buying used is a good solution if you get a guarantee from the place selling it about returns.

Stuff sold "AS-IS" you have to be careful of unless you're an electronics expert.

Trying to do streaming and switching between the multiple ways that can be done these days on all the devices that offer it can get complicated pretty quickly, so I try minimize that complexity myself and for my family.

There are always workarounds, but they also add to the expense and complexity too.

Ebay can be a good resource for buying older "dumb" TVs without the streaming apps built into them. Local shops are good for that too depending on how far they are from you and what they carry.

For example, Sometimes I sometimes go to the Tukwila location for RE-PC when in the area, a place in the Seattle area specializing in all manner of old tech: TVs, computer monitors, music gear, software, CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays, etc. Great place. They also have a place just south of Seattle, but I haven't been to that one in many years.
