Wildebeest… i checked it - and indeed, both in Dutch and in Afrikaans, it means the same thing - wild beast. Was probably an early name applied by the early Dutch migrants in Africa to all the numerous breeds of antelopes and similar animals roaming the region.

Yes, hopefully, your analogy becomes reality.

I think both parties have enough problems. Read that Trump at this time commands 55% of the Republican vote. DeSantis - who hasn’t even announced, and most likely will not do so for this cycle - 25%.

If anyone beats Trump in the primaries, that person’s political future will be bleak. The Rep party would be too divided, and that winner would be, in effect, a spoiler. The Dems would win.

Trump is an extremely talented and hard working campaigner. He may win the presidency all over again. But, just as much as his followers like him - huge numbers of people hate him. He has no base among the elites - and one can’t run the country without them. A lot of his presidency will be, once again, about Trump himself.

Still, it’s quite likely that he’d be able to achieve a lot - even more than the first time around.

Bottom line - all those divisions create a situation that’s far from ideal. Still, it’s hard not to conclude that the best bet for the Republicans - and for the country - would be a Trump victory. Hopefully, enough non-pro-Trump Reps will get this through their heads.
