The larger question is: "Do we selectively abrogate portions of the OT, especially when it comes to money?"
Jesus didn't come to eliminate the law, but to fulfill it.
Re. Money in the OT. We are dealing with principles. The 10% principle...the offering principle...were put there for our benefit as well as the benefit of the recipient. Giving helps balance out greed.
I went through an experiment many years ago when I changed jobs and went into some Christian ministry. With four children, I went from a very strong income for "that day" to $15.00 per week. It was a faith ministry, so to speak. I purposed I would "tithe" 51% of that on an experimental basis to see how God's supply would provide for our needs.
We survived!
People came to Christ.
I started getting "raises" that allowed us to make it okay.
My motto was a paraphrase from J. Hudson Taylor, the sensational and Godly missionary to China. His paraphrase from Phillipians 4:19 has been a model verse for me: "God's work, done in God's way, will never lack support."
It's the principle of giving that makes it work.
WARNING- In no way do I subscribe or endorse Bob Tilton's approach, however---that's not what I'm talking about.
More later.

Jack

PS
Congratulations on your new grandchild (picture was great) and your ministry of faith to the friend of your daughter. Praise be to God.
