| | | You are quite right that other people's stuff, commonly opm these days, engenders envy, violent theft, robbing and kleptocracy, bribery, corruption and evil-doing on a grand scale. But at least in recent millennia there is an increasing understanding among the less chimp-like of us that co-operative efforts with private property and voluntary association, self-determination, free enterprise and other Virtuous Victorian Values are the best way to live. Jungle "people" kind of look like people, but they are more like animals. So they need to be shot at dawn when they go feral, jungle, full of envy and violent attack on the property of others.
In Saudi Arabia, they do not tolerate stealing money from shop tills for example. A bit of hand-hacking persuades people, even those who are quite chimp-like in their psyche, that it's a good idea to leave opm alone.
In most countries, there's a considerable culture to not be very robby. But of course the politicians in many/all of those countries get a bit kleptocratty, thievy and "for the public good" about opm and lining their own pockets.
People are a work in progress. But it's getting better.
The great weakness of democracy is voting to grab opm by the giga$buck. USA is now in the $triillions. The great weakness of China is lack of democracy. The great strength of China is lack of democracy. Tradable Citizenship in free enterprise private property republic form is the best way = maximum degrees of freedom, with incentive to self-benefit by protection of commons property, and maximized citizenship open market value.
Crappy countries like South Africa, Zimbabwe, North Korea, Cuba, would have very low tradable citizenship value. Countries like Luxembourg, Switzerland, Singapore, Japan would have very high tradable citizenship value. Countries like Greece could go from also-ran backwater countries to best in the world if they did things right [having great climate, location and whatnot].
