Go figure. Even in a country as oppressive as China, people come out onto the streets to protest the government's severe COVID lockdowns.
It's even gotten to the point where people in China are watching the World Cup and wondering why most of the fans in the bleachers are not wearing masks. Of course, the Chinese censors are desperately trying to hide the truth ...

Here's the thing. China cannot find an end to their lockdowns. COVID is never going away.
The best way to deal with it is by making the general population immune to the coronavirus, either through nAtUrAl iMmUnItY or through vaccines.
Because the death toll from nAtUrAl iMmUnItY can be as high as 2%, that's out of the question for a huge nation of 1.4 billion people. (2% is 28 million, for those of you in Rio Linda.)
However, China only allows its citizens to take their own vaccines.
And their vaccines, quite frankly, suck.

This article is from April of 2021, by the way. It's unclear whether China has improved the effectiveness of their own vaccines since then, but I wouldn't bet on it.
So why don't they import foreign vaccines?
One word: PRIDE
The Chinese politicians, who all suffer from short-dick syndrome, can't admit that American Big Pharma produced a better vaccine than their Chinese scientists.
That would destroy the narrative that China can be a self-sufficient superpower that imposes its superior culture and superior technology upon the rest of the world.
Most Chinese citizens realize this. They know that the rest of the world has moved on from the pandemic. The World Cup only confirms what they already knew from the beginning.
But the Chinese government will never admit this. They can't afford to, much like PooTin can't afford to lose in Ukraine.
What should Brandon do?
Now here's an EXCELLENT opportunity for Brandon to come in and offer to send China millions of doses of Pfizer's or Moderna's vaccine.
After all, it's already proven to work here, especially among the five million Chinese-Americans who live here and have among the HIGHEST rates of vaccination compared to other people groups.
But Brandon won't. Why? Because as usual, he's leading the world from his behind.
Maybe it's also because he doesn't believe in American exceptionalism. I'll never forget when Brandon once claimed that Brussels should be the capitol of the free world, and that was when he still had almost 100% of his mental facilities.
In any case, if most of the Chinese population got vaccinated with the mRNA vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna, then China can have more room to relax their "zero-COVID" policy with minimal impact to their health care system.
But they won't, and no one in America will call them out on it.
Not the political left, who believes in Brandon and his "lead from his behind" foreign policy. They never liked Big Pharma anyway.
And not the political right, who is full of anti-vaxxers and Qonspiracy theorists. They prioritize crucifying Dr. Fauci and anyone else who believes in vaccine mandates. To support sending mRNA vaccines to China would undermine their anti-vax positions.
Congratulations America. We just squandered an opportunity to come out like heroes in this pandemic.
