When you talk about the Democratic party you need to distinguish between the liberal/progressive wing and the moderate wing.
The moderate wing as been in control for 50 years since the McGovern debacle.
It was the progressives who elected Obama because he ran to the left of Hillary, but the minute he won he moved to the center where he ruled for eight years keeping the progressive wing at arms length.
And then again the moderate oligarchy ordained Hillary to be Obama's successor, and made it so no one could challenge her by sewing up the super delegates, DNC, etc.
No Democrat dare oppose Hillary. The progressives wanted Warren, but she knew it was impossible, and that is why they hung their hat on Bernie Sanders who raised much more money from small donations than Hillary which shows the power of the progressives.
Then again in 2020, when Bernie won Nevada, Obama and James Clyburn became alarmed and ordained Biden and got the rest of the moderates mayor Pete and Amy Klobuchar, etc to quit and support Biden and Clyburn got the African American vote which controls the southern states to support him and once again the progressives were shut out.
But the future of the party is the kids, Gen Z and females, especially the young one's and they are very progressive, and the party is split about 50/50 now, with the progressives gaining and the moderate wing fading.
So I was talking about the future and when the progressive wing assumes power!!

They had enough votes, in the first 2 years of Obama’s term…and didn’t do it.
If they got rid of the 60-vote Senate rule, they could have done it anytime in the last 2 years….but they didn’t.
They could do it today, in the lame duck session….but they won’t.
The fact is, the Democratic Party is fractured, has no clear sense of purpose, and no sense of urgency. |
