My favorite is misinformation. The term is not as “unsafe” as to call someone a liar. In this latter case, one could be called upon to prove it - and even get into trouble. “Misinformation” sounds softer, more neutral. Like, you receive a call at 3am - “oh, sorry, I must have misdialed”. With this modified language, they can cancel a person just as effectively - but it sounds fuzzier.
