Thomas: Re: SNB & the Swiss Franc

Some have suggested that one of the reasons some people at your Bank have advocated selling gold is to depreciate the Franc. What other countries have been doing besides lowering the interest rates is to simply print more money.

I would expect repatriation of US dollars from abroad after the EMU is proven. For now, the US dollar = world monetary system, and if it fails, it will drag down the rest. Notice how easily it has withstood the Asian turmoil. If there are problems in the world, the US is the place to go for stability. It is large enough to absorb all the investment from abroad, but is looking ready to burst. If the EMU is successful, it will rival the US, and I cannot see any benefit in that for the US dollar.

How do you see the eventual outcome of Britain's dilemma. Will she be in or out of the EMU? Britain has never completely accepted she is part of Europe, has she?
