The bottom line question is, can David take on Goliath. What does Polycom bring to the table besides 1 really good, much less expensive product ? PictureTel HAS to react to this - all they have to go is gussy up the Swiftsite to handle 384kb and above. So without knowing move, I view Polycom's window of advantage here as relatively narrow. How narrow is narrow, Pict is a larger boat and therefore harder to turn, but in six months ? If the new CEO is aggressive it can/must happen. As it was pointed iut to me (correctly so), PictTel's fundamentals are pretty strong. That said, the number of folks making the switch from Pict to Poly is impressive.
