Most people in the building world are aware of how Trump does business. He became well known on the East coast for this among contractors. Here's the swindle.

1) Trump contracts with a subcontractor to do something like carpeting a casino for an agreed upon price.

2) The contractor completes the job, it's inspected, and he bills Trump.

3) Trump responds with a complaint and offers to pay far less.

4) The contractor knows at this point he can sue Trump, and many have, but he'll have to pay lawyers and it'll take a long time. Even if he gets a judgement then he has to prove there's money in the account. More lawyers more time. Trump's lawyers are on retainer, they're just part of his spread sheet.

Most contractors take the lesser amount even at a loss, and learn a hard lesson. Don't do business with swindlers like Trump even with an ironclad contract. You'll win... but you'll lose.

Plenty of stories out there from contractors ripped off by America's greatest swinder.
