That's empirically wrong since it ignores several factors. Those other auto companies are just far more cautious about it now, just like the film industry became after Steve Jobs did that for music and the iTunes Music Store. Steve Jobs got the last major holdout, Sony, to agree to Apple's terms by calling Sony's CEO on Christmas Eve to get the deal done so it could be announced at Macworld in January. Jobs was a bit less than kind to him too, as reported by Mr. DeWitt in 2009 when he was at Fortune Magazine. :-)

Apple never got the content licensing deals with film companies after that while Jobs was alive once the music industry and its artists saw what those deals did to decimate CD sales. Why buy a $12 CD for the one or two hit songs when you can pay $1.29 ea. maximum for them instead, right?

Well, there are plenty of car manufacturers in the world who don't trust either Apple or Google/Alphabet now. So they invent janky ones far worse than CarPlay or Android Auto are. Ford's FordSync is one example, and it sucks. I've tried to use it. No wonder since it uses Microsoft's Windows Embedded Automotive tech.

There are also plenty of hungry auto makers out there (usually the smaller Asian ones) hungry for investment to make their cars more appealing to consumers who will partner with Apple given enough money thrown their way. That'll always be true in such a competitive industry like auto manufacturing.

Of all the ones I've tried in modern cars, CarPlay still stands out and shines to me as the best overall experience for a non-propellerhead, and that's nearly all car buyers today.
