| | | Apple plans were far too ambitious with the Apple Car. I think their goalposts kept moving forward as new tech was invented and more possible features were tacked on.
For example, they learned from Tesla's über flaming and very public accidents and subsequent bad press that self-driving cars good enough to pass muster for safety in the public eye is still years away. It's already very good currently, far safer than human drivers are already proportional to the U.S. population, but that doesn't matter, perception is everything. It only takes a few intensely burning crashes with fatalities once or twice a year to keep Apple's family-friendly theme park reputation away from holding that hot potato for long. No one wants to see the calliope crash to the ground.
That cool paradise from the dashboard light tech Apple showed at the WWDC this year was amazing, no doubt, but that's a far cry from making an entire car or lining up manufacturing for it. I'm sure they'll keep trying.
Tim Apple is an odd guy. Some CEO's live their dreams, some CEO's destiny passes them by. There are no guarantees, he'll have no alibis... It takes some time, but god knows how long that'll be.
I look forward to the books written in the future about the Apple Car and the blood, sweat and treasure spent on its design come out. Bet we'll find out Apple spent more than the annual GDP of many countries combined when it's all over but the shouting, I do believe, though, so click your heels some more, Dorothy!
Feeling a bit of a wheezer coming on, I need to take a break for my inhaler, I just take it minute by minute these days...
Anyone seen Toto around lately? :-) |
