Second comment The Origins of Totalitarianism begins with the rise of anti-Semitism in central and western Europe in the 1800s and continues with an examination of European colonial imperialism from 1884 to the outbreak of World War I. Arendt explores the institutions and operations of totalitarian movements, focusing on the two genuine forms of totalitarian government in our time—Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia—which she adroitly recognizes were two sides of the same coin, rather than opposing philosophies of Right and Left. From this vantage point, she discusses the evolution of classes into masses, the role of propaganda in dealing with the nontotalitarian world, the use of terror, and the nature of isolation and loneliness as preconditions for total domination.
#Remarks The similarities between the desire for the extermination of the #Jews by the European NAZI parties and its European sympathizers with the current war in #Ukraine and the erasing of the Slavic Ukrainian culture that defines the Ukrainian nation is astonishing plain. It exemplifies hatred for hatred's sake a result of the desire to extricate yourself from the misery of your life, you are living, and the desire for the extermination of a nation that seems the weaker one. This is a result, of the intense propaganda and brainwashing of the less knowledgeable by a #totalitarianism regime to cover up its own economic failure and cover up its own self-enrichment from the spoils of war of extermination, and in addition to embezzlement of the own country's wealth, by the ruling totalitarian political apparatus that supports a totalitarian leader. Interesting reflection on human basic instincts originating within the primate population.
