I was surprised to read the actual legal USA definition of Weapons of Mass Destruction years ago. A ridiculous joke. I have many weapons of mass destruction. Similarly "rape" of an enthusiastic 15 year old isn't rape in the same way that as a father of 3 daughters and 4 grand daughters I would get a carving knife, axe, steel bars and ropes to deal with an actual rapist.

Legal definitions are quite different from normal usage. Manipulating words for emotional effect is scummy lying.

In the same way "children" is used to absolve hideous Moslem marauders who claim to be only 18 years old so they can be called a child as a minor. "Oh, the poor unaccompanied children crossing the southern border". In Eurostan, some obviously 25 year old hairy chimp-like males claim to be 15 or something stupid. They are not children.

One of the reasons that young men ask the father for the daughter's hand in marriage is that there is an instinctive understanding that the father is the alpha male and his daughter had better be treated with kid gloves and seeking of approval. See Father of the Bride for an amusing look at the psychology. The mother acts as a father-tamer. I have been a young man and a father and can attest to the psychology of both situations.

It's not that women are treated as property when they are "given away". It's more the official handing over of duty of care and protection.
