OceanaGold (OGC-T) has drilled a 12.9-metre true-width interval averaging 73.4 grams of gold and 133 grams of silver per tonne in the East Graben vein at its -- pause for air here -- Wharekirauponga project in New Zealand. The rich hit had company, as a second test averaged 52.8 grams of gold and 136.2 grams of silver per tonne over 11.8 metres.

Wharekirauponga is just 10 kilometres north of Oceanagold's Waihi mine, to which it looks to add valuable ore. The deposit already is home to 1.5 million tonnes indicated at 13.5 grams of gold and 26.6 grams of silver per tonne and another 2.3 million tonnes inferred at lower grades, good for a total of 1.34 million ounces of gold and 2.88 million ounces of silver, nearly all of which are in the East Graben area.
