Lisa,

Did you have the Dell technician swap the video cable?

If yes, then the monitor is intermittently defective. This is not good news. The problem could re-appear at any time, say 3 nanoseconds after the warranty expires.

Do not let this sit. Inform Viewsonic or whoever you purchased the monitor from and specify that you want a replacement. Otherwise you send this thing in and you'll pay the shipment and get the thing back with no problems found.

I know it pisses you off to pay the shipment, but you could be out a lot more if you have to pay 60$/hr. for repair. You should be able to find a carrier who will pick the beast up at your home/office. Don't forget insurance.

There's a real remote possibility. I once owned a monitor that had an unmarked rotary switch that selectively turned off each gun. I set the monitor on the floor once and accidently rotated the switch one click.
Green disappeared. I didn't notice the switch for a couple of months and lived with the color distortion. This was back in the 386 days though and it's extremely unlikely that a modern monitor would have a feature like that.

As for what to do in the mean time, if you can't borrow a monitor from someone , than look into a one month lease.

If you do borrow a monitor from someone, ask me what to do to avoid overdriving it before you power it up. Let's move this discussion off line.

Good luck. And BTW, good trade yesterday. It's a big deal to break a losing streak. The option (TBR) info came from thestreet.com midday update. That is one service that is worth its 6.95/month charge. Try the 2 week freebie.
