I see no mention of Churchill using gas against Kurds.
During WWI, Germany, France and Britain used poison gas - even though, technically, it was already prohibited. Eventually, it was outlawed again, in 1925.
The use of gas by Britain against the Bolsheviks in northern Russia was news to me. It sounds like it wasn’t very effective. Also, noticed in one of the articles that only 3% of gas injuries used in WWI were fatal. Many others suffered temporary or permanent injuries.
Overall, it’s a… strange weapon. Psychologically, it was devastating. But not all that effective in its early, WWI period versions. Current chemical weapons seem to be truly horrific.
During WWII, there was some use in Asian battlefields. Germany, famously, used it for mass executions. |
