I agree one of the likely reasons that no large entity creates a booking engine designed to reduce OTA commissions is because it benefits the hotels and AirBNBs, but not the booking industry. Who has the incentive to enter the space and reduce the revenues of the booking space? A consortium of hotels makes sense, and I don't really know why they haven't done it yet.

If I were in my twenties and wanted to start a business, I would try to disrupt this space with the central database idea I wrote about earlier. But I'm not, so I won't.

I would support legislation that requires an OTA to list prices by the amount that goes to the hotel, amoun that goes to the OTA and amount that goes to "other". If price transparency were required commissions would rapidly decline.
