He could leave, could have left a long time ago, much as I hate to tell other people what to do.

What's the Dylan line, "the pump don't work 'cause the vandals stole the handle."

Others are leaving, as he notes, he could take the hint. California isn't the only nice place and if his personal experience of it isn't nice then what's the point in sticking around.

Good writer, good thinker. Seems to be stuck.
