I don’t think there is any chance of hostilities between France and Germany. They’ve done it too many times over the centuries - clearly, there is nothing they can accomplish through fighting. I think you’re right - Medvedev is just pulling their leg. But, at the end of this war there will be some attempts at rebalancing the situation in Europe. They may push for more independence from the US. After all, the idea of the EU was meant in part to counterbalance the US influence. Macron was talking for some years about forming a European army. Maybe that’s the direction they’re going to take.
