What I described is what the planet would be like after humans left and not how humans would leave...

And sure, glass, plastics, and so on will remain buried in the earth but may never be discovered since there would be no one left to discover anything...

But you ask how would humans become extinct...

There are several ways I could think of just now:

1. A planetary disease that destroys all life forms...

2. A cosmic event such as the earth being hit again by a giant asteroid...

3. A human made nuclear catastrophe that destroys all life forms rapidly or over a very brief period of time...

4. Poisoning and contamination of the waters all life forms need to sustain life...

I'm sure there are probably at least another half dozen ways it could happen...

The focus of my initial post wasn't on how humans would no longer exist, but how this planet could very easily mend itself...

All the "damage" environmentalists claim are destroying the planet amount to nothing more than nonsense, the planet will repair itself almost immediately...

The planet doesn't need our help to keep itself going, to think otherwise is truly egocentric and naive...

It did just fine before we arrived and it will do just find after we leave...
