There is plenty of room for federal legislation to shore up elections, like amending the Voting Rights Act, the Civil Rights Act, National Voter Registration Act, and federal election criminal statutes. Federal law governs voter registrations and the process for cleaning out registrations, for example. It should be mandatory to clean off ineligible voters from the rolls, not wait until lawsuits are filed, for example.
