InfoWorld checks in:
<<<February 9, 1998 Year-2000 compliance and IT staffing top the list of current reader concerns:
There's so much activity on every technology front these days that we constantly have to decide which developments to track, which news conferences to attend, even which rumors to chase. One of the most important parts of our decision-making process is feedback from InfoWorld readers. Two recent events were particularly rich sources of reader data. One was the meeting in late January of our Corporate Advisory Board (CAB); the other was receiving results from a formal survey of our readers.
The CAB meets twice a year, and its members are a great source of ideas about what's happening right now. Formal surveys record similar information in a more structured way.

Based on those sources plus your recent letters, e-mail, and faxes, here are the seven concerns that are currently top of mind for InfoWorld readers.

1. Year 2000. This has been a concern for years in some organizations, for months in others, but now it's getting real scary. Of particular concern is that software vendors won't deliver on their promises of year-2000 compliance.

2. IT staffing. Demand far exceeds supply, and the shortage of skilled workers is expected to worsen because of retirements and because fewer students are choosing IT as a career.>>>
