Bob,
The whole RF IC market is running at capacity for both Si and GaAs.
So there is plenty of room for more fabs. My problem is seeing the volume in the GaAs markets once Si takes all the 400Mhz to 2GHz sockets. There just is not that much volume in 2 to 10 GHz applications, maybe PCS will grow faster than expected. Who knows?
Whatever happens the problem wont be one of direct competition because these are not the sort of parts that you can easily replace one vendor with another. Basically vendors compete for new products, so what you really need to look at is just who is winning the new sockets with people like Nokia and Ericson. The old products will continue to run with whatever chip they currently contain.

regards
Robert Talty
