MOT's software "modem" is fact a software that can
utilize intel's latest version of the Pentium chip with
the MMX feature. The software is designed to replace
the V.34 chip that is currently in the 28.8 modems as
well as in the ADSL modems. I think it is a data
compression chip which is the most expensive
part of a modem. By using a software V.34 the
price of a 28.8 modem without V.34 chip can be
reduced by about $50 (retail?). So I think the same
saving can be achieved with ADSL modems.
