Why would Russia trust the West to honour any deal on anything?

There was a reasonable peace deal on the table in March until Boris Johnson told Zelensky that the Americans and Brits didn't want a deal, but rather the destruction of Russia. Russia now realizes that it is in an existential war with the West.
