Russia could reasonably nuke Wellington. It would be a good way for Russia to scale up to demonstrate how seriously people should take the USA/NATO attack on Russia. NZ isn't even a member of those but wants to gang up on Russia anyway.

There are hundreds of big deal places worth an incoming mirved ICBM. And Russia has swarms of atomic bombs.
USA has as many bombs. But go ahead everyone, see if you can name many places in Russia that would be equivalent. Moscow and St Petersburg of course. Kaliningrad, Murmansk, Sevastopol. But already, the targets aren't exactly Hollywood.
Turning 20km circles of Siberian forest to ash will increase CO2 and annoy the bears hibernating in caves. It would make things easier for China to take over.
Toasting wheat fields in the West wouldn't do much either.
Eurostan would lose Londonistan, Berlin, Hamburg, Paris, Marshall, Glasgow, Helsinki, ... targets galore. And the Force de Frappe, British, Nazis, wouldn't have any targets left after USA had toasted Russia.
The 1.1 billion Euroserfs/Yanks have got a LOT more to lose than Russia has. And those 1.1 billion are a lot more densely packed and dependent on integrated systems. Russia is a bit close together in the West but Russia's urban population is only about 40% whereas the NATO 1.1 billion (give or take 100 million) are 80% urban = good atomic bomb targets.
Would China, India, Israel get into the nuclear war too? I suppose so or USA would totally lose as China's hordes would take over the empty wastelands.
