Manafort was Trump's campaign manager.
For a few months. For most of the campaign, Manafort was not on the team.

After Trump had won the primaries, the GOP threatened to cheat Trump out of the nomination via "brokered convention". Trump's team was political novices, so they needed the help of a DC insider. That's why they brought in Manafort. While Manafort was there, the campaign sagged. As soon as they fired him, the campaign took off again.

Manafort has nothing to do with Trump.
