And it is because most are ignorant, uninformed, and will simply accept what those in 'authority' will dish to them.
It would be interesting to find out how many of our current citizenry have any idea that Germany was once divided or that Ukraine once had a very sizable cache of nuclear weapons. I'm sure that those who know about the intricate negotiations concerning German reunification, the Ukrainian nukes, and the incredibly complex diplomatic song and dance that took place in the late 1980s and early 1990s are a distinct minority. But those events now play a very significant part in current matters. It's so much easier to simply say that Putin is a very bad man (he is definitely no angel), and that we should risk it all to punish him and his fellow Borises and Natashas.
The world is complex and easy narratives are easy to accept, especially if your attention is focused on the NFL, the latest crap from Hollywood, the need to make a living, and People Magazine.
We are sadly in an era where no statesmen exist. Top politicians are now uniformly venal, dumb, geriatric, or demented. There is no one with enough influence to simply say "This is enough, this is too costly and dangerous, here's another way."
We get the leaders we deserve. I just don't see how America deserves the idiots presently in charge
