I have always used the month of January to collect a relatively large position going long on volatility. No different in here as I am long plenty of VIX calls with strikes at 20 and 22.5 - going out to June and August.

Once we escape January, volatility will creep back in and we usually see a 30 handle at some point by April.

I don't think this year will be any different.
