DJ AMD CEO Sees PC Slump Hitting Bottom This Quarter -- WSJ

Advanced Micro Devices Chief Executive Lisa Su says the PC market is about to bottom out for the chip supplier.

"We do believe the first quarter is the bottom for our PC market," Ms. Su said on an earnings call after the chip company reported fourth-quarter results.

PC shipments have slumped sharply after a surge early in the pandemic. PC shipments fell 28.5% in the final quarter of last year, research firm Gartner said, the worst retreat since it began tracking the market in the 1990s.

"We'll see some growth in the second quarter and then a seasonally higher second half," Ms. Su said.

AMD said its client segment, which houses PC-linked business, saw a 51% decline from the year-earlier period to $903 million in sales. The company said that reflected both a weak PC market and "significant inventory correction" across the supply chain for such devices.
