M.2 heat issues can usually be mitigated if not eliminated in nearly all desktops. It can be far trickier to impossible to do in laptops and mini PCs depending on the layout. But it's true M.2 tend to burn out faster so to speak. The issue with the 980 Pro was bad older firmware, supposedly that was fixed but with users claiming rapid deterioration in the 990 Pro one has to wonder if it's just firmware or a bigger issue.

I doubt every 980 Pro and 990 Pro out there is having issues but it only takes a few percent to question their reliability and damage Samsung's reputation. Puget is a legitimate outfit even if they aren't a huge systems builder, so this is a story to keep track of, imo. These are the two links from Puget:
