James, I don't know, my new WD 6.4 GB Caviar is silently humming away, a fountain of great joy to me. I never had to contact WD for support yet, so I just cannot relate anything. But I do know that I have purchased a very good harddisk. You don't hear anything! And it's technology is as good as it gets in EIDE these days I think. I admit I'm a fan, Thomas
